Funky Fairisle

I had this idea in mind of non-color fairisle with layered look top.  And I just had to do it. After a little work, I realized it's a bit a variation on my Colors on a Cloudy Day  So, ha, I'm copying myself, the exact thing I've been trying to get away from, sigh.

But, I do like the sweater. It was knitted top down in round with raglan style sleeves.

I've read some knitters' and designers gripe about raglan style as not the most flattering. I'm always super puzzled by such comment as it's the one of the styles that I find most flattering on me.  Maybe it's my body/shoulder type.  The raglan lines change the horizontal shoulder linex and adds slope diagonals that I always find very much to my liking.  It breaks the rectangular frame of body since I don't have a slim waist. 

The yarn I used was Quince & Co. Chickadee in my stash, which is a lovely yarn for colorwork,  in color egret, kittywake and sabine.  Needle was US #4 all the way throughout the entire sweater. 

Pattern is mostly written.

Finished a New Shawl - Perimeter

Just finished this one.  Modified the stitch from "Labor of Love and Patience" a bit.
Simple triangular shawl that was knitted from bottom up.

I'm on a slightly lazy about knitting mode.  Honestly, it's more of  a bit burnt out from designing mode.

Lots of things going on in my head. I would want to just see if I can push myself to be a bit more interesting instead of the path of production.  

Also, trying to figure out if I can line up more non-designing work for the future... but what I have on my plate is making me rethink about my own priorities in life.  My creative priorities and making a living.  Perhaps these two are best for me if they don't get so deeply intertwined. Not sure. 

Labor of Love and Patience

How timely, speaking of love.  Tomorrow is Valentine's day!

So I finally got one sweater done.  It took me 6 weeks to do it.  Now that I think about it, that was not super long for sweater knitting in general, but it felt like forever.  

I wanted both textures and using slip sts so that only one color is used in each row, no stranded color work.  It took a few tries to get the stitch motif to work so that I could work contrasting colors for sleeves and body at the same time.

The sweater was worked from top down, seamless in round, with raglan that created a saddle shoulder look.

Also, snow was so good at the beginning of the year that I'd been snowboarding quite a bit in January. After skipping last season at the resort, we sure were glad we got the season pass this time knowing El Nino was coming.  The powder was so sweet few days this year that I just felt like I was gliding down the hill and through the trees, too hard to sit at home on days like that.  But it hasn't snowed for 3 weeks, instead of doing uninspiring laps on trails I was able to get more knitting and other stuff done .  So, I finally finished this sweater.

It was a bit taxing on my patience. But it's done, and I really, really love it.
I did write up a pattern, just not sure if anyone would be interested in knitting it at all with row gauge of 60 rows per inch (that's right, with slip sts). I decided to do short sleeves because I ran out of patience, and I do love layering look, so why not?

Oh, I used Grignasco Bambi yarn for this sweater, which is a fingering weight yarn, and needle size #3.
